Ok, so I am going to go on a rant really quick to help you, the business owner ensure you are not putting your business in jeopardy by hiring spammers.
Everyday, several times each day we get emails from so called SEO Companies who are trying to tell you they can handle your SEO services, or ask if you could outsource SEO services to them. If you are like us, you get these emails several times each week if not each day. They usually come late at night USA time (morning time in India). The emails say in essence they are not spammers, they have reviewed your site for several hours, etc, etc.
Why is hiring these (so called) SEO Companies are a bad idea for your business.
1) They spam your email, they will spam the search engines. Search engine spam is one of the most annoying things for the search engines, the users & the business owners serving the market getting spammed. This is usually done by buying no value links by the boatload really cheap by inexperienced, wanna be SEO’s.
2) If the company doesn’t take time to reach out and find out about your business how can they give you a cost? Most of these spam related emails offer a cost of $xx a month if you go with their services. No reputable SEO company can give you a cost without knowing your business. Every business is different, and every campaign is not the same.
3) They promise they can get you ranked #1. No one can guarantee that, not even Google (unless Google changes their business model, which I don’t see happening anytime soon). As soon as someone says guaranteed #1 rankings run, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!
4) They say you are missing factors on your website that they can fix and help you rank on page 1. First of all, most of the time you are already ranked on page 1. They are trying to make you a client and use your hard work or your current or past SEO work to help boost their sales (using you as a client). Secondly, these reports can easily be manipulated to make numbers look better or worse depending on what their goal is. The best way to track your SEO campaign is reviewing your rankings, traffic and more importantly business generated. Third party reports saying you need X amount of density, X number of heading tags, X amount of links, etc is in most cases FALSE! Have them run the same report for the person ranking #1 for you specific market and you will see, most of the time they will be ranked lower than your current site in this report that “shows how much work you need done”.
There are a lot of red flags that are given when you are dealing with, or about to become a potential victim of these vultures. The best thing you can do as a business owner is become at least a little knowledgeable about SEO. That knowledge can save you lots of money while saving your brand online before a shady SEO company helps your company disappear from online. If that is what you are looking for, to disappear, hire the spammers today. I am sure they will make you no longer exist on the major search engines.
